The only word for the hike we took on Sunday afternoon to Crowder's Mtn State Park ~ BRUTAL.
It started out innocent enough. A pretty walk through the woods.
Isn't this a lovely path?
sunlight streaming through the branches
interesting fungus
then...
it was time for serious hiking.
I was pretty psyched. But my body wasn't. It was a rough climb.
2.0 miles up, and up, and up....and then up some more!
Doesn't seem too strenuous but the path bets steep and then a little ways before you make it to the top the path ends. Then it's only rock! What?! This is where our sons were waiting on us and helping folks over and up to the top because really, it's a must to have a helping hand at this point.

In the end...
THIS IS WHAT I SAW!
Pretty Spectacular!
We reached King's Pinnacle and touched the pole! I was told this is a must as it's the highest point in Gaston County at 1,705 ft.
The area is rich in history. It once separated the hunting grounds of the Catawba and Cherokee Indians. In 1780, during the American Revolution, the Battle of King's Mountain was fought just to the southwest in an area now known as King's Mountain National Military Park. From the peak of the summit you can see Charlotte, NC about 30 miles to the east, and to the far west and north you can see the distant Appalachian Mountains.
Another beautiful view
a bare tree (and my husband's hand)
my mountain climbing son...goofing
my other mountain climbing son, on the OUTER EDGE of the mountain, literally hanging on a precipice
My mommy heart was thumping and I kept saying, Get down here!
I'm sure he was embarrassed as he had been up there over an hour waiting on me to get there :)
A lazy Sunday afternoon it was not!

but didn't you feel awesome when you reached the top?! what an accomplishment! ha, i would be yelling the same thing at one of my kids!
ReplyDeleteTanya,
DeleteI did feel accomplished when I reached the top! I just never imagined it would hurt so bad ;)
On top of the world!! It's beautiful :-)

DeleteHi Anne,
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful view, nature is amazing, you really got very nice pictures, but the best part is that you did it to the top.
I'm following in your blog and Pinterest as well,
Have a wonderful day :0)
Hi Laura,
DeleteThanks! It was a pretty awesome experience. Thanks for following along. I'm doing the same at yours! Have a great day :)
Anne, I can so relate to doing the same. Climbing up to Mount Lofty Summit with my family, including young Grandchildren. I was just about on all fours by the time I crawled to the top, gasping for breath. Not again, once was enough. Lucky my DDIL, slowly stayed with me. The others including 10yr old waited at the top. Even my hubby, who is 6yrs older than me. Hmmm they thought it great I actually finished though.
ReplyDeleteYour scenery is breathtaking. Well worth the effort.
Thank you for your visit and kind comments. x
Congratulations, Anne! Love that photo of you and your hubby. That needs to be framed. xoxo
